Curses to the sand, the sky and the sun
Last week I was at MotoGP for a race weekend. Itwent pretty well and I even found myself enjying it for a brief time on the last day till I lost my glasses. I picked those up at Doha Airport's duty free shp and theyw ere sweet looking shades. I became a beleiver in Ray Bans when I put those on. They made me look passable on my worst days, and that truly is an accomplishment. But as I said, I lost them at MotoGP. This left me in a pretty tight hole, beccause expenses are tight and saving mode is on. Bu glasses are essential in Qatar, especially if youw alk as much as I do. So for two days I bummed my brother's all-black 20 riyal glasses, semi-aviator style.
I have never found aviators or something like aviators that looks good on my face. My face seems to small, my eyebrows mess with the look- its just never been the look for me.
But then two days ago, I found myself at a sunglass shop in the oddest of places. The girl working there found a pair of Ray Bans that at first I did not imagine myself wearing. But one look in the mirror and the decision was not far off. Upon further discussion, she told me that they had just come in the day before, part of Ray Ban's latest collection. Stylish, big (which is supposedly now IN), and upon futher inspection, in a high-pitched shriek, they happened to be screaming my name.
630 riyals. Almost two hundred more than what I paid for my last pair at the duty free, for what was then, also the newest collection. Although it has to be said that they are very different styles.
So here I was four days ago, walking out of the store, all gleamy eyed at 6pm with a cloudy sky.
So I decided to wait till the next day. Since then the last three days have brought a sandstorm to Doha. More correctly, it has brought a coloud of sand and dust that is clouding out the sun, precisely the instrument of light that my new sunglasses depend on, to work. Hence I am openly bestowing curses on the sand, the sky and the sun.
