Far, far below the learning curve

I have been picking up words and phrases of Arabic and I feel now is the right time to tell you all about what I have learnt. Its been a slow and arduous process but its coming along. I hoped to have been fluent by the time I came back to Canada just so I could show up to M's doorstep and talk to him in Arabic, which he would then commend before hugging me. You know, pipe dreams.

Anyway, here is what I have learnt till now. I have spelt it as I see it pronounced, so although an Arab might not spell it as such, I feel that to provide you with a better idea of pronounciation, its a good idea to do it this way. These are random words, some important for daly life, and others even more crucial:

mai = water
shai = tea
haleeb = milk
nana = mint
ma = with
bidoon = without
shai ma haleeb = tea with milk
shai bidoon haleeb = tea without milk
shai suleimani = tea without milk, same as above
shai bidoon haleeb ma nana = tea without milk, but with mint leaves in it

hon = here
yasaar = left (as in the direction)
yameen = right (aldo direction)
alatool or seedha = straight

sayyaraat = car or any autombile
maktab = office
kursi = chair
kitaab = book

bibsi = pepsi (the Arabic language has no concept of P)
Bakistani = Pakistani
Betrol = Petrol
Combuter = Computer
Sahil = Beach or coastline

saha = yes, ok, right, or correct
la = no, (or sometimes) wrong
wala = or
saha wala la? = (as if to say, Am I....) right or wrong?
bizzabt = exactly
bizzabt saha = right! exactly

Ana= I
Inta = you

Keefek = How's it going?
Kefek inta? = How are you?
Kifahalak? = How are are you?
Mashalhaal? = Everything good?
Yawm = day
Al-Yawm= today

Keefek al yawm? = How are you today?

Alhamdulliah = good by Allah's will (loose translation for this and the ones below)
Allah-i-Khaleek = a good comment (I don't know what it means, but I say it everyday. It has to do with Allah, so it has to be good you know)
Tamam = full, or all (can be used alone as a response to Keefek or any of the above questions?)
Alhamdullilah Tamam= Everything is good by God's will.

aseer = juice
pharaola = strawberry
ainab = grape
tuffah = apple
faham or jamar = coal (for shisha)

mushkila = problem
mafi = none, no (as in.. mafi Arabic)
Mafeesh = no (as in mafeesh discount)

rakam = number, money,
bareed or baree = post office
sandooq = box
rakam wa sandooq al baree = P.O. Box Number

Shu = What
Hada = This
Shu Hada = What is this?

Kam = much
Kam Hada? = How much is this?

wahid = one
itnain = two
talata = three
arba = four
khamsa = five (and so on it goes..)

So there you have it. My knowledge of Arabic till this point. I willa dmit its pretty slim, but it takes a while to grasp and learn especially since everyone around you is speaking it so fluently and to hold a conversation at the begining, you automatically have to revert to English.
