odds n' ends

-- Finding a job is turning out to be very hard. For all my talk of this city being walkable, the offices of various banks, govt dept etc. are far and few between. I have maybe given out five resumes and that will surely not get me a job. My visa expires in 5 days and if it does, I either have to go to Pakistan or Dubai .. or I have to get my visa extended which costs a whopping 500 riyals. Why does it cost so much when the original 21 day visit visa only cost 60 riyals? It doesn't make any sense at all. Needless to say, I am worried. I asked Saheeb to talk to his dad and see if he can swing something, hopefully he can.

-- My birthday is tomorrow. The prospect of a lonely birthday looms large unless my friends can meet up. My dad is scheduled to go to Dubai tomorrow and my brother is the only other one here. Twenty-four. Shit.

-- The White man. Jen will be very happy to hear this. Yesterday, I clicked on to some channel on the new satellite dish and lo and behold, the white man is in Qatar too, preaching away with his ugly assisstant by his side. She still looks like a walking warning sigh against plastic surgery and he is still preaching about the apocalypse, which is set to come on April 16/2015 according to him. Stock up on bibles and cola, it shud be a long one this time. All hail the white man.

-- There is a virus on my comp. It sucks. Can't get it out. Might have to revamp the computer but I don't know if this crusty old laptop can handle XP. Its still running NT for gods sake.

-- Pakistan are surely going to lose their first test match against England after their batting order got demolished by England's bowling on the fourth afternoon. This loss could be averted ofcourse if the l likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Mushtaq were to mysteriously join the team in fine form and send the English batsmen packing. I don't think that'll happen though. They're all too busy being 40+ year olds. England continues to dominate Pakistan in test matches. A huge shuffle in the Pakistani order should be in the works right about now.
