The concept of Eidi
Eid brings a lot of good food and loads of parties along with it every year. That is pretty much a given. However, another pleasant surprise also awaits all kids that celeberate eid, the concept of Eidi.
Its simple, if you are not engaged or married, you recieve some money from an adult as a gift. usually your parents give you some cash and so do their friends. Its a jackpot if you play your cards right. The key is to not be outside when the aunties get together to hand out eidi to the kids. you don't get much from each auntie but if you happen to be around 5-6 aunts at one time, you can easily rack up 60 to 70 riyals.
Till now, I have not worked an hour in Doha but I do have about 120 riyals in my pocket, money generously donated by my mom's friends that can be wisely used on internet cafes, baklava and midnight Pepsi runs, not to mention several unmentionables.
There are some drawbacks however, like me having to give my brother some eidi because he is younger to me- not a prospect I looked forward to since now he has more money than I do. Now, I have to sit around and think of a scheme to con him out of the money I just gave him.
Now you see how Islam can lead you to a life of crime? I've been saying it all along.
