K'naan - The Dusty Foot Philosopher

This past Friday night brought along with it the juicy reminder that an awesome concert was in check at the local Pepper Jack's Cafe in Hamilton. K'naan was performing his erratic musings on life, happiness, the story of the displaced peoples and of course, on being him.
Let's get into quick review mode and lay it straight out. This was a solid concert. Not one thing went wrong, the performace was bang on and the crowd loved it. The chants for an encore were not needed, the band knew its duty. K'naan, a four person group with two drums (one used very well by K'naan himself), the band has a unique sound in hip hop. The lyrics are soulful and passionate.. above all, they make sense that is to say that the man has substance to his tongue. His words do not ring hollow. The guy just doesn't rhyme words. He has something to say and is interesting and he does weave his words into a melody that make it sweet and ever more poignant. A masterful performer just coming into his own. He was relaxed, in control and seriously watchable. The following is a 30 second clip taken from the K'naan show on Oct. 13 show. Many of his songs were expanded upon, and even slightly different than the original. This song is called The African Way.

Pictures from the show coming soon.
