The Games

The past summer saw some impressive developments in the Mid East Peace Process. Definitive moves were committed to and some decisive changes came about not the least of which is the withdrawal of Israeli control and settlements from Gaza. Sharon took a major gamble doing this with stiff opposition from within his own party - but in teh end he knew he had to give something, the americans would not give him a lop sided. So Sharon gave up Gaza- a dumping ground for the region's problems, trash, weapons and violence. Its highly populated, continues to grow every day and is surrounded by borders that limit its resources and its people. Withdrawal from Gaza is a joke. Its a joke because while he's doing that, Sharon is also speeding up the construction of the wall around Israel. Everyday he annexes more land. Last year I heard a human rights lawyer speak at my school. He was part of the team that represented Palestine's argument to the Hague. That court subsequently declared the Security Wall illegal. Coming back to the speaker, he spoke to us about Israel taking farmlands around villages and disconnecting villages from their lands by building a wall between them. The International Criminal Court at the Hague even commented on such cases in its verdict on Israel's actions. But of course, Israel has an ally in America, and since America doesn't believe in the ICC/ own the ICC/ have immunity from the ICC, you can see why Israel is nopt really paying attention. These are the games.

Then, to exacerbate matters, Israel has acknowledged says the press, that there will be some pullouts from the West Bank. That the process might be lengthy.

This whole process is going to run out and they\re gonna hand Palestine its own country. They'll call it a great move but it'll be no more successful than me typing without mistakes. The Palestinians will demand more and at that time Israel will call them selfish and greedy. This has haappened before. The patterns have not changed/ do not change, its just the circumstances that have us blinded.

The Palestinian state needs resouces, opportunity of economy and security to exist. It needs to be able to address each of citizens when it comes to housing, education and health. The country needs to have enough employment opportunities to employ its populace, to be able to sustain government without massive deficit. These are all necessary needs of a state in today's polity. If a state cannot provide its citizens with the basic amnities of life like water and food, it cannot exist. It will implode within or it will seek its problem - and its problem will be that they were cheated again, they got talked into a bad deal again. This has happened before.
