hip hip hurray!
Salman Rushdie is releasing a new novel this September. Titled Shalimar the Clown, the novel is set in Kashmir and apparently deals with modern Islam and terrorism to a large degree. I'm not sure how exaggerated these claims are, but either way, the fact that Rushdie is releasing another novel is good enough for me. I'm looking forward to it with open arms and am quite glad that I've hit the reader's bug lately cuz it'll have me good and ready for the meaty novel that it obviously will be.
I accidentally read too much of a Village Voice article and sort of know what the premise of the novel is. A rookie mistake, i know. But, those who have read rushdie will realise that this takes nothing away from the story as the beauty of the story lies in the words of the writer. Nevertheless, I'll make sure never to do that again..
Here is one review that brought a smile to my face:
“A masterly deployment of interconnected narratives spanning six decades. . . . Dazzling. . . . A magical-realist masterpiece that equals, and arguably surpasses, the achievements of Midnight’s Children, Shame and The Moor’s Last Sigh. The Swedes won’t dare to offend Islam by giving Rushdie the Nobel Prize he deserves more than any other living writer. Injustice rules.” - Kirkus Reviews
