The Halted House
Halted House
They wringed their rights
Then wronged, they’d fight
As old gray birds danced with delight
Bound in shackles to their plight
For unmoving years had hurried on
While the wings of time did look upon
The combatants who were worn & drawn
Hungrily awaiting the missing dawn
Darkness cracks beginning low
Tracing tendrils in eerie glow
Alone but one and hope may grow
What deeds of battle will history show?
Greens of dews and all brighter hues
Withheld in all their glory
The talisman for unpaid dues
And the curse of untold stories
