tired of this too

What did Australian Rupert Murdoch’s American newspaper, The New York Post headline read the day after Yasser Arafat's death? Yasar Arafat Dies And He Won’t Be Missed. This is from the same organization that wants people to believe that their coverage of the news is fair and balanced. While there are many people who did not agree with Mr. Arafat’s policies and tactics, there are just as many who did believe in them. The cover of a newspaper is not the place for such a blatant editorial opinion. That is what the op/ed section is for.

There will probably be no outrage expressed about this because people choose not to think about how the media manipulates us. Besides the manipulation, they also set the agenda. I have always been disgusted that America’s idea of foreign news has always been what is happening in Israel, as if nothing newsworthy is happening anywhere else in the world. Americans know more about the middle east then they do about Canada. And even then most of them would be unable to pinpoint the middle east on a map. The only time they are informed of foreign news other than the Middle East, is when a crisis happens and the boiling point has been reached in a situation. Then they try to make instant sense of it, not really being informed of all the issues involved. Falling prey to the media and not thinking about and investigating issues is part of the reason why the election turned out as it did.

Another example was Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in america) If you had turned on an American channel, you would have heard how America cares for its troops, despite the fact that it has been documented (from this election) that America cares more about whether gays should marry than whether the troops in the all volunteer army were sent to Iraq under false pretenses. This was also the only day that the media will mentioned the death toll. There were the obligatory tears and then afterwards, things went back to usual. No gay marriages will be performed, the economy is in ruins, the polar ice caps continue melting, cities go bankrupt, jobs are being exported, the minimum wage is still too low, social security is in disarray, civil liberties are being taken away and there is no national health care. Just another day in the ol’ USA.
