sunday .. 3:51 pm.
nothing to do .. bored as hell itself .. atleast its not a hot day cuz there's not much else worse than being bored and hot in hamilton...
i'm going o spiderman tonite.. that shud be fun ..
so... i have some stuff to tell ppl ..
i've decided that I'm gonna move to the Middle East next year in May. The time has come to move back for a few years .. make some money and then comes back to see where life leads me..
I've been thinking about this for a long time and I feel that since I am disenchanted with school and Canada right now.. I might as well take a serious plunge and see if i can knock off a zero off that student loans balance...
I'm gonna move back and start working, the kind of job is really not important becuse u end up saving a lot of money. There is no income tax at all and neither is their any sales tax.. so immediately ure saving abt 40% of your income. I'm just gonna take that money and send it straight back to Canada to pay off the student loans.. and then live with the rest. The rest of the cash ends up being a lot of money because food is cheap as hell there. I figure that I work this way fro about three years and I'll have made a dent into my loans. Hopefully, I can get a good job. Chances are pretty good that I prolly will. I'll have a degree from a Canadian university, a Canadian passport and I'm fluent in English. Pretty much nothign else matters there.
If I can get a good job, I'm gonna put a downpayment on a house and put it up for rent. So that while I pay off school loans, my credit and future investments also shore themselves up.
I'll probably move to Dubai as it is the fastest growing city in the Middle East. I might even go to Doha (Qatar)since they have the Asian Games coming up in 2008 and they are building for that in a big way which means lots of opportunities. However, for now, the prospect is definitely Dubai.
I just feel that I've got to make a dramatic change. I've had a lot of fun over the past few yearsm but in all honesty, my poli sci degree gets me squat. Law school is something I do wanna pursue but I am not sure of t as of yet, so might as well take some time to reflect and there is no better place to reflect on the past and look to the future than Dubai.
I keep talkign about Dubai and I know many of you have probably heard of it for teh first time from me. So, let me tell you about Dubai. Can you tell I am bored?.. yeah..
Dubai is the quintessential Cosmopolitan city. It was built by big money from teh Soviet Union which was getting oil from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) durign the Cold War. However, the country was neutral in its stance during th Cold War and therefore, it does have a very American feel.
Dubai is shopping central. Everythign is cheap. From Electronics to clothes to gold. There is a gold market in Dubai that is pretty much as big as two football fields. Its filled by atleast 500-600 small stores filled from head to toe in the most fashionable gold jeweller u can imagine, whether it be from India, Pakistan or Africa. Giorgio Armani, up until a few years ago had only three stores in the world, New York, London and Los Angeles. Their fourth store was opened up in Dubai. Tommy Hilfiger's second store ever was opened up in Dubai. I'm not as proud of that one.
Dubai attracts retailers from everywhere. Yu will find Mexx, Banana Republic, Marks and Spencer, Issey Miyake, Salvatore Ferragamo etc etc. You can find it all, from rich hobnob stores to more casual stores.
Dubai also attracts immigrants from everywhere... as I said, it was built by Russians but attarcts people from Pakistan, India, Japan, Phillipines.. actually, pretty much everywhere in the world. People in the west are beginning to discover this jewel in teh coast of the Arabian Sea. Up until now (and even now) there are alays concerns that women are discriminated against, the white people face problems. That is all hogwash.
Arabs are astounding businessman. No businessman spurns a potential client especially if that client can bring thousands more. There are two Middle Easts. One is the conflict plagued region like Palestine, Syria, Iraq etc. The other is the one we never hear about. The one that is affluent free and gosh darn it, fun.
Drinkign is allowed in Dubai, although only in bars as of now... yet, things are changing. People are religious but will never impose their own beliefs upon you. Much like in Canada. It's a free place but life is easier to live. The days are longer, not because of the sun, but because u leave work, get home early and stay up till later all year round.
I can't say much more.... If someone told me that I could go to Dubai right now after giving a pint of blood.. I would empty my veins knowing that maybe just for one day, I could see the sunset in Dubai. That maybe, I could take a walk on the corniche (the coastline that runs right along the city). That I could play football (no, the other football) on sand and stones again.
the plan is set .. i don't have a stone yet, but I will when I get to Dubai.
