1. Common - I Used to Love Her (This is a song about Hip Hop. Common rhymes throughout the song as if telling the story of a girl he loved. This a beauty of a song and will probably be the highlight of the workshop. It is a song that self-analyses and above all criticises; however, the love and passion behind the words is evident. If there is only one song u check out from all these songs, this shoudl be the one.)
 
2.  Immortal Technique - Dance With the Devil (This is a brutal song. It has a powerful message that will make the listener think and really pay attention. This to me is the best story telling song of all time. IT raps about a young guy in New York who chooses a certain life and has to live with the consequences. A beautiful yet brutally honest song.)
 
3. Tajai - The Dum Dum (I will only be playing a minute of this song. This is in the list because it shows very well the fusion between different genres of music that occurs in hip hop. This osng takes an oriental tune and mixes it with hip hop sounds .. for a pretty sweet beat... i just want to give them an idea of how the possibilities are endless)
 
4. Talib Kweli and Mos Def -- Theives in the Night (This is a song that portrays the true skills of these two prolific MC's. In this song they try to bring into perspective how we live our lives. A very good song that is deep in every line. Great music too)
 
5. KRS One -- The MC (This live song is a song that shows the true mastery of an artist like KRS One. He shows in this song what it takes to be an MC. I can't really put it into words but this a song to check. It doesn't have a message per say but this is hip hop at its core. It's fun and it's extremely talented.)
 
6. Gemineye - Poetic Bloodline Video (This video and performace is a spoken word performance. This is an amazing piece to put it mildly. The artist rhymes about poets and his experiences of poetry. Excellent rhymes and even better timing. A great example of hip hop that is positive. Spoken word has given hip hop artists a chance to showcase their talents without having to battle other artists or whyme about a prticular subject. It affords them the choice of rhyming about anythign that comes to mind and showcasing their true versatile talents. This is a great example. ok.. that is all i can think of right now.. I know I have a few more songs planned out.. but I am at work and can't think of them right now. I finished work early today so i just though I'd come update the blog... I could actually get used to doing this everyday. But, let's nto get ahead of ourselves.. we all know how fast I can change my colours..
 
hope all of you are well. I haven't seen so many of you for so long. It's abt that time when I seriously start missing MAC and can't wait to get back. Just as in past years, the urge has returned and I am ready to quit and go back to school. A far cry from the way I felt in May I can tell you. What a difference two months of night shifts can make.
