The Game of Politics
The Democratic Convention is being held in Boston this year. The Democrats have not gone light on the symbolism. Garnering images of FDR, the liberals of Massacheusetts and the democratic history of the city and state have all been factored into the decision.
The main guy hasn't spoken yet, but many have spoken for him.. some have done well for him and others have left much to be desired. Howard Dean for example, has clearly got rid of his campaign team. He looked dishevelled. His speech was weak. He looked out of place even though he got a 3 minute standing ovation. His actions were off, his speech was ill timed. His suit looked second hand and what's worse, his tie looked like Gandhi had made it by hand. Come on dude, you're the governor of Vermont, a major political force now, so what if you lost? get off the whiskey and the rented porn and act like a damn professional ..
Hillary Clinton was kissing up to some major Democrat ass last night. Her speech was 90% boot licking + 3% jabbing at President Bush + 7% toughness for the feminists and career women. Absolute gem if you consider where she wants to be in four years time.
Al Gore came off as much more relaxed. That one Saturday Night Live appearance did wonders for this man. He's a changed personality. His speech wasn't impassioned, but he got his point across. What was his point? The Democrats would have handled things differently if the votes had been counted right and he was in the office instead of Bush.
Then came Clinton. The essential ortaor in America. Or so we all thought anyway. His speech was strong and his is just the strong voice that Democrats need to start believin in Kerry. What's the worst thing about Kerry? He's not Clinton. So, the next best scenario is for Clinton to endorse him fully. That is exactly what Clinton did..
many had thought that the keynote speaker honour would go to Clinton. Yet, in the face of increasing pressure from ethnic groups that the Kerry campaign was too white when it came to the close supporters and aides, the campaign and party decided to call up one of their rising upstarts.
Barack Obama.
Remember that name, he will be the first black president of America.
This man is an orator par excellance. He has the "gift of gab" as they say in the business. Man oh man, can this man paint a picture with his words. His style, his swagger, his wit are all refreshing qualities in today's politics. I was thoroughly impressed. I have never jumped out of my seat in support of an American politician. I did just that when I watched Brack Obama speak yesterday.
You can watch the video here. I really hope you do, cuz this is a genuine politician to me. I was impressed. I was even moved. Their are no exaggerated promises here, there is no flash. There is just a talented man speaking about his hopes for his country. Just wait till he gets into it..
i'll post later on what I think teh democrats chances are... i'm off to bed for now.. laters folks..
