arrite Bourke .. here is the playlist ... it is tight. I hope you all enjoy the tightness too..
in no particular order as of yet..
1. Aesop Rock - No Regrets ( A very good song that shows the talent of a well known underground artist. The song has a message and does not shy away from forcefully showing it. Possibly one of the best story telling songs ever. Exactly why I put it in the lineup.)
2. Dead Prez -- Wolves (Not a song but a speech from one of their albums. Talks about crack cocaine and how it has affected black america. Highly political. Ver passionate and very interesting to boot. I put it in there because I wanted the workshop to understand how hip hop culture surpasses songs on an album. There is more to it.)
3. Dead Prez - Mind Sex (This song is ut in there to show people that there are some artists out there who make amazing music that doesn't necessarily demean women in hip hop. In fact, this song and others like it work to empower women. Beautiful song but still very raw.)
4. Common - Come Close Video (I included this Video as another example of a good artist who empowers women and whose lyrics can serve to counteract all the butt wigglin and tight clothes of women in music videos today.)
5. KRS One -- U Don't Really Want It. (This song is a very good example of a popular kind of song in hip hop. The Diss. This is a diss song by one of the grandfathers of Hip Hop,KRS One. He rips into current artist Nelly who showed grave disrespect for KRS. KRS One, one of the most prolific MC's of all time, gives Nelly a lesson in rhyming.. funny.. a cutting diss.)
i'll post some more later .. but check these songs out for now..
