Colin Powell is planning to MEET with the planners of the alternative peace accord that was proposed two days ago. He's just trying to meet with them. No promises. No negotiations. No prospect of US backing. Just meeting. However, some people are trying to dissaude him from doing even that. Seems like many people want the status quo of war and bloodshed more than any peace deal. Deplorable... how can we acheive peace when we won't give differing opinions a chance?

Th truth comes out. America wants to elect the new legislature of Iraq. Iraqi leaders are demanding that Iraqis be allowed to directly vote in the elction. American officialss oppose that move. Seems to me that the US might be testing out a revised version of democracy in Iraq. How do you promote democracy when your actions and policies undermine it in the first place?
