If you go to Google.com and type in "miserable failure" and search that term, the first listing from your search will be a Biography of George Bush. Try it out. I am not lying. That is funny..
In England, The British government is hoping to reduce the legal age to vote to 16. The government will never come out and say it but, the labour party of England (the current party in power) has traditionally been supported by younger people. It has been comprehensively proven in England, that as a person grows older, they tend to favor the Tories in England. Moreover, the population of England is not very high and as the baby boomers start to pass away slowly and more people become older and Tory-oriented, the Labot party will require a younger base that it can aspire to and it needs this base quickly. Therefore, they want to lower the age because this will give them access to young voters that ill be attracted to the party's young image. Yes, I know that Tony Blair is 55 years old, but his counterpart in the Tories is hitting 65. So, it's all comparative. This is why the current government is pushing for a lowering of the voting age. Will it work? .. We shall see...
ok on to the rant...
Today, I heard someone talking about how Canada is completely in the right for not going to war in Iraq. That part I agreed with. Then the person said that we were in no way involved with the war and could hold our hands up high and caim that we had not profited from it. That point I take serious issue with.
It is true that Canadian soldiers have not walked into Iraq and killed innocent people like America or Britain, but that does not make us innocent. We are as much to blame for their plight as the Americans, maybe even more because at least America does it out in the open; our people and citizens don't even know how we are involved in the war.
For example, when an American soldier shoots a gun and kills someone, there is a 45% chance of that gun having been produced in Canada. We are the United State's most precious and biggest arms supplier. Our country depends on the United States as a market for professional weapons for what is a multi-billion dollar industry. Are we still innocent?
In London, Ontario, there is a Ford Defense plant that produces parts that eventually become tanks down in the United States. This plant provides a major part of the livelihoods of people within our country. Our government takes taxes from it. Those tanks go and kill people in illegal wars like the one in Iraq. Are we still innocent?
Those smart bombs that the United States claims are "smart," are only intelligent about 7 % of the time. They are pretty much dumb the rest of the time and kill everyone in sight regardless of age, colour, creed or whether they live within the "strategic target area". The technology for the smartness of those bombs is developed by a Mississauga, Ontario company that also produces microwave ovens for normal customers like you and me. This company is a world leader in laser guided technology and its chips are put into every US missile that is dropped. So, since the system only works 7% of the time, the United States is basically using a Canadian company to kill innocent people. Are we still innocent?
We are the Unite States' biggest trading partners. We depend upon them for our economic viability. Why is this important? This is important because we NEED them to kick the crap out of other countries and get cheap gas and oil and profit in every other way. Their profit is our profit. Have you noticed that gas prices have gone down by around 10 cents compared to what they were last year at this time? That's not because Santa is coming. It's cuz America is getting cheaper oil now and we are profiting from it too because North America's oil supply has increased. We are America, we just hide in the shadows and revel in our special status in the world as a peace maker.
But the truth is, we are as much to blame as the US for the destruction in Iraq and Afghanistan and the many other countries tat will be attacked after this. When the US says that they want to protect the freedoms of nations around the world, they are speaking of us, they are fighting these wars in our name.
We are as guilty as they are. We are imperialists like they are. We are 'they'. There is no difference between us.
But alas, all the while, we stand by and pat ourselves on the back because we did not declare war. People ought to wake up from their ignorance and gullibility to see and smell the blood on their hands.
