Amedeo Modigliani is one of my favourite artists. He was the quintessential bohemian of his time. The most impressive part of his collection of paintings are the portraits. My favourite has to be The Little Peasant. Most of his paintings have a two things in common: elongated faces and the peculiar eyes. The eyes of his portraits are either hollowed out with no pupil or iris at all or one eye is normal while the other although being normal has a thathced roof design on top of it (I can't for some reason seem to find a picture good enough to show the difference between the two eyes)....

This was his way of signifying the difference between a human's eyes. He had a theory in his later years that one eye was used to look unto the world and the other refelcted inwards into the soul. This theory led him to pain his subjects such a manner... interesting...
