I went to a BBQ today. It was nice. The food was good. I met a man who is about the age my dad is. He was really interesting and we immediately hit it off talking about politics, current news, american policy (is it any wonder?) and near the end, old movies that taught people about history .. mostly war movies :)
He really surprised and impressed me because I really have not met many people in his age group from Pakistan (the old country) that are that well educated and have that deep an understanding of politics and world affairs as him. I do not mean to sounds all prissy and "oh look at me I go to university" like, but it is true to a degree.
When my dad and others in his age group went to school, it was only for the necessary disciplines. No one taught and studied politics, philosophy, psychology, anthropology etc. unless they wanted to be an academic. Therefore, although most ppl from this time and age group do have an interest in politics, they lack the understading to decipher a deeper meaning.
They dislike American policies. Yet, they do not realise that if they're wish for America's downfall came true, another imperial power would take over. One tyrant is as bad as another. There are many subjects like this that are not fully analysed by ppl like my dad and others in his age group. However, this man really impressed me and I had a lot of fun speaking with him about different political theories and the two of us together gave an impromptu "history of the world" session to the others present at the party. Quite enjoyable.
what else... oh I went to two of my brother's baseball games today. I met a guy there too that I immediately hit it off with. We talked or a while about this and that and then realised we were both huge Leafs fans. So, we talked about that. Moreover, he said that he could sell me some Leafs tickets (!?!?!) ...for about $70 each ...wow!! what luck.. I've been trying to get some for years and now the chance just pops up out of nowhere... I'm gonna give him a call in September and buy them off him for sure. Fingers crossed.
Btw, my bro's team lost both games. However, in their defence, they were playing kids that were at least two years older to them. Not that winning matters. As long as they have fun. I say that to my brother after every game just to keep his priorities straight but I don't really believe it. I like winning. Losing sucks. If I have to give my right hand to win, I will. As long as the 'hand-giving' does not interfere with my winning ways the next time around.. :)
think I'll go to bed.. need some sleep... 'nite!
